Liberty Grove Schools is a free, public charter school serving families in Indianapolis from Kindergarten through 6th grade, with expansion into 7th grade underway. Literacy is at the core of everything we do at Liberty Grove. From early reading foundations to upper-grade comprehension, our approach is designed to ensure students develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
What This Looks Like in Practice
- An ongoing school-wide literacy initiative focused on consistent instruction and support
- An annual Literacy Night that equips families with tools and strategies to reinforce reading at home
- Free access to books through giveaways and school events
- Free literacy tutoring for all 3rd graders, regardless of income
7th Grade Expansion
Liberty Grove is expanding into 7th grade, allowing students to continue their academic journey in a familiar, supportive environment without disruption.

Current Supports Include:
After-school tutoring for grades 3–6 (second year of implementation)
Data-driven and income-based eligibility, ensuring resources reach students with the greatest need
Family stipends available where applicable to support access
This work is supported through grants and school partnerships with Indiana Learns (Indiana Department of Education), Lilly Endowment, and The Mind Trust, totaling more than $250,000, dedicated to strengthening instruction and expanding learning opportunities beyond the school day.
